DOSNY

About DOSNY

An orchestra for musicians of every profession.

Our Mission

At the Doctors' Orchestral Society of New York (DOSNY), we cultivate an enriching musical community for amateur and nonprofessional musicians. Embracing the belief that "Music Heals," our volunteer musicians offer free concerts in New York City, striving to make the transformative power of music accessible to all.

Since 1938

Celebrating 88 seasons

Founded in 1938 by physicians under the direction of Ignatz Waghalter, DOSNY has grown into an intergenerational ensemble of approximately 60 volunteer musicians. Our members come from healthcare, education, law, engineering, finance, the arts, and other professions, united by a love of orchestral music.

Our volunteer musicians present three orchestral concert programs each season. All concerts are free and open to the public. Our repertoire combines orchestral masterworks with contemporary and less frequently performed music.

Over its history, DOSNY has performed at Carnegie Hall, Town Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, and community venues across New York City. We also perform for benefits and bring chamber ensembles to older adults in senior centers and assisted-living facilities.
